Florida tax changes taking effect in 2026 include sales-tax refunds for storm-resistant home improvements, expanded property-tax portability and longer tax-free shopping periods.
Several new Florida tax provisions became effective on July 1, 2026. Eligible homeowners may now request refunds of up to $500 for sales tax paid on qualifying impact-resistant windows, exterior doors and garage doors installed on homestead properties valued at $700,000 or less. Beginning with the 2027 property-tax roll, homeowners will also receive greater flexibility when transferring their accumulated Save Our Homes benefits between Florida residences. Additional changes include more realistic property-tax estimates on online real-estate listings beginning in 2027 and an expanded annual back-to-school sales-tax holiday running from July 20 through August 20. These provisions may help homeowners reduce improvement costs, better estimate future property taxes and preserve tax benefits when moving. For more information, click here.
