Florida voters will decide in November whether to approve a major property tax amendment that could expand the homestead exemption and create a path toward reducing most homestead property taxes over time.
During a June special session, Florida lawmakers approved HJR 1F, a proposed constitutional amendment that would increase the homestead exemption for non-school property taxes if voters approve it. The measure would require 60% voter approval on November 3, 2026. If passed, most provisions would begin January 1, 2027, with the exemption rising to $150,000 in 2027 and $250,000 in 2028. For now, Florida property taxes have not changed, and current rules still apply to 2026 transactions. For more information click here.
