A look into Florida’s tax holidays

Florida’s 2025–2026 budget introduced major changes to its sales tax holiday program, replacing short-term exemptions with longer and permanent tax relief periods. A new permanent Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday runs every year from August 1 to 31, allowing shoppers to buy clothing ($100 or less), school supplies ($50 or less), learning aids ($30 or less), and personal computers ($1,500 or less) tax-free. Additionally, a new Hunting, Fishing & Camping Sales Tax Holiday runs from September 8 through December 31, 2025, covering tents, fishing gear, camping supplies, and even firearms and ammunition. The state also made many disaster-prep items permanently tax-exempt as of July 1, including batteries, fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, tarps, insect repellent, and access to state parks. These reforms aim to make tax savings more accessible and predictable for Florida residents throughout the year. For more information click here.
