2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season Predictions: Increased Risk for Florida
Colorado State University (CSU) predicts an above-average 2025 Atlantic hurricane season with 17 named storms, 9 hurricanes, and 4 major hurricanes, exceeding the 30-year average.
Florida faces the highest risk of being impacted by a named storm (92%), hurricane (65%), and major hurricane (35%) compared to other East and Gulf Coast states, significantly higher than climatological averages.
The probabilities of a major hurricane (Category 3 or higher) impacting the continental U.S. coastline are also predicted to be above average at 51%, with higher risks for the East Coast and Gulf Coast.
Several factors contribute to this prediction, including warmer-than-normal subtropical Atlantic waters and the absence of El Niño, which usually suppresses hurricane formation. For more information click here.
