Florida Leads the Nation in Vacant Lots for Sale

Florida currently has the largest inventory of vacant lots for sale in the United States, according to research from Zillow. Nationwide, more than 300,000 lots measuring five acres or less were listed in June 2026. Building one home on each property could reduce the estimated national housing shortage by approximately 6.3%. Florida’s large inventory may provide opportunities for homebuilders and investors, especially in growing suburban and inland communities. However, available land does not automatically mean it is ready for construction. Buyers must evaluate zoning, road access, utilities, flood zones, wetlands, insurance, permits and development costs.
